The Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Theater was inaugurated in 1940 as the Colombia Theater and renamed in 1973 in memory of the liberal leader, assassinated on April 9, 1949. It is a prominent cultural venue in the historic center of Bogotá, with a capacity of 1,695 spectators. It is located in the Santa Fe neighborhood, in the city center, on Carrera 7.

    Its design began in 1938 and was overseen by architect Richard Aeck of the American firm Fred T. Ley. Both the interior decoration and the stone-clad facade are in the Art Deco style

    This temple of art and culture in the capital offers a constant program of performances. Artists such as Lindsey Stirling, Juan Manuel Serrat, and Lila Downs, among others, have performed there.
